Dragon's Milk, Tital IPA, Wheach, Meer's Gold and a Little Sumpin' Sumpin

The latest batch of bottles had some interesting brews that were definitely different. I had my first Peach beer and one that reminds me of a good red wine. Overall, a good round of beers.

The next batch of beers.
My first bottle out of this round was New Holland Brewing Company's Dragon's Milk. To be honest, I only grabbed this one because it had a dragon on it. I like dragons. :) Anyways, when I poured it into a glass, it was pitch black to the point where no light came through at any angle. It also didn't have any head at all. The taste was very malty and had an interesting flavor of the oak barrel aging. I haven't had many examples of barrel aged beers yet, so I don't have much to compare that taste to. This beer was a hefty 10% abv but it was fairly sweet and you couldn't really tell. I did, however, lose some appeal as the beer warmed up some. Not too bad.

Next up was Great Divide's Titan IPA. At first, the beer had a little odd taste that was a little off-putting. Very heavily pine flavored as opposed to hops. But once you got past the first few sips, the actual hops flavor was decent and had a nice malty balance against it. After finishing this bottle, I was leaning towards marking this beer as a pass for the future, but I had another chance to try this a week later and it was much better the second time. Makes me wonder how old my bottle was. After the second bottle, I won't necessarily pass on this one, but there are other IPAs that I still enjoy more.

One of the more interesting beers of the batch was O'Fallon's Wheach. This was surprising to me. It's first a very well done wheat beer, but you quickly get the great flavor of peach. I love the peach flavor in the beer. It's a great level of sweetness added that isn't too overpowering. This was a very nice beer that I'd love to try again.

Lagunitas is becoming one of my favorite breweries because of their different and well done brews. Their Little Sumpin' Sumpin' Ale falls into the different category of theirs. First taste was strange. It didn't taste like a beer at all to me. It's technically a Wheat Ale, but I taste something different and it took me a while to put my finger on it. I taste a good wine when drinking this beer. I can't explain why, and I can't taste anything else now, but I love it. It's just a nice fruity blend with 7.5% abv (about where wine is) and my tongue tells me wine. I'm crazy, I know...

The last bottle is the big bottle of Meers Gold Beer from Choc Beer Company. This is one my mother-in-law picked up for my brother-in-law and I to try. It came from a restaurant in Oklahoma (I think) and is supposed to be served with a 10" hamburger. It was a big bottle of good beer. Nothing special about it, just a decent brew.

I've got a shocker for you: I'm caught up with my beer blogging! I don't have anything new in the fridge that I haven't talked about already and I just typed up the last of my notes. I've got to finish up what I've got before buying more, so it may be a little while before my next blog. Until next time, happy drinking.
