The Imperial next to the original. |
It shared a lot of the same great characteristics of the original. Nice, deep malty taste with hints of chocolate sweetness. The hops has been toned down a bit which is okay. This allows the malts and other flavors to stand out a bit more which is good.
Being an Imperial, it sits at a hefty 9.6% abv, yet it is hard to tell it's that much as you're enjoying it. Unlike other beers with abv's this high or higher, it doesn't bite you back as you're drinking.
I wasn't planning on talking about this one yet, but it's technically in the photo so I may as well. In the background is a 64oz Growler that was filled with Mother's special brew, Trouble Maker that came straight from the brewery. That's the best way to get your beer!
Trouble Maker is a double IPA with a high abv as well (around 9%) and this one you can feel after putting a few away. But it is so sweet and hoppy that you don't really notice it right away. I loved the great fruitiness blended against a ton of hops. It is the perfect summer beer; very refreshing and smooth.
Since we're on the subject of Mother's, guess who I saw driving through Joplin a while back...
