Boulevard Tank 7 Farmhouse Ale

Tank 7 Farmhouse Ale
At the end of my last blog, I said I was going to pick up a 4-Pack of Tank 7 to try a highly recommended brew and hope for a good comeback after the last disappointing 6-Pack. Well, I did not get a 4-Pack as I originally stated. Instead, I found a single 750mL Smokestack Bottle and picked it up for a taste that was simply wonderful.

Tank 7 Farmhouse Ale is the first beer I've picked up in a bottle this size. I was surprised to find a cork in it, yet at the same time excited because to me, that meant it was something special. As soon as the cork popped out and I got the first aroma from the ale, I knew why it was highly recommended by several of my friends at work.

It smelled sweet and full of life. The fruitiness just jumped out at me followed by a nice mild hops and then the alcohol. This brew is 8% ABV after all. So I poured a pint glass and the head was enormous and almost overflowed all over the counter top. The aroma was even more intense now and I could really begin to smell the grapefruit even more.

The first sip was mostly head, but even it was tasty. Once I finally reached the beer it was smooth and refreshing; a great springy flavor. The hops was well balanced against the sweetness so that neither one overpowered the other. It was a great tasting beer.

By the time I had gotten halfway through the first pint, I could really "feel" the beer and once it was gone, I knew why my friends said it was "one and done" for this one. It left me with a nice buzz, yet a great experience. I still have about a pint left in the bottle now, which I will probably finish up tonight, and I'm looking forward to it.

The day after my first experience with Tank 7, I began to think about the beers I have tasted so far and a pattern jumped out at me. I don't know if it's just a "hometown" thing, or I guess I should say "homestate" thing, but the beers at the top of my list are all from Missouri. There's Mother Brewery in Springfield, Boulevard in Kansas City and O'Fallon's in O'Fallon (by St. Louis). I just found that interesting.

Anyways, I have another custom 6-Pack in the fridge now including one beer from China. That should be interesting.
